AWP Participates in the "80 Voices" Campaign with The Maria Project

80 VOICES is a national campaign initiative to give voice to all women who have lost their lives to violence.  In honor of Maria Salazar ~ The Maria Project's 2011 series works to highlight coalitions, agencies, groups and women organizations nationally who work daily to help women, children and their families who have been affected by violence - and to give voice and peace to so many stories that have never been told for the purpose of advancement of this issue. We at Amethyst Women's Project are pleased to be one of those partnering organizations.

For more information on this campaign effort, please visit www.themariaproject.com.

Be on the lookout as performances will be held in October.

Family Affair

Amethyst Women's Project is happy to partner with other agencies in promoting the moving documentary "Family Affair" by Chico Colvard
For showtimes click here
Or check out their facebook page.

Sundance 2010 U.S. Documentary Competition Review
“At 10 years old, Chico Colvard shot his older sister in the leg. This seemingly random act detonated a chain reaction that exposed unspeakable realities and shattered his family. Thirty years later, Colvard ruptures veils of secrecy and silence again. As he bravely visits his relatives, what unfolds is a personal film that’s as uncompromising, raw, and cathartic as any in the history of the medium.Driving the story forward is Colvard’s sensitive probing of a complex dynamic: the way his three sisters survived severe childhood abuse by their father and, as adults, manage to muster loyalty to him. These unforgettable, invincible women paint a picture of their harrowing girlhoods as they resiliently struggle with present-day fallout. The distance time gives them from their trauma yields piercing insights about the legacy of abuse, the nature of forgiveness, and eternal longing for family and love. These truths may be too searing to bear, but they reverberate powerfully within each of us.”

OFFICIAL SELECTION: Sundance, Full Frame, HotDocs, Silverdocs, IDA DocuWeeks.

WINNER:
Atlanta - Best Doc Feature
IFFBoston - Audience Award
CFF - Best Doc Feature
DukeCity - Best Doc Feature
